The Cost of Putting It Off
The catch is that plumbing problems do not pause and wait for a convenient moment. A weeping pipe joint costs a little to fix today. But ignore it, and water travels along framing, soaks into subfloor, and invites rot and mold. A sump pump that hums but no longer moves water seems fine until a spring storm rolls off the Mississippi and your basement in Nokomis takes on inches of water.
Here is the problem with waiting on sewer and gas line issues in particular. A partial sewer blockage becomes a full backup. A minor gas line fault becomes a safety hazard. Catching these things during a routine plumbing inspection is far cheaper, and far safer, than dealing with the aftermath.
